Briney was born in Hartford, Connecticut,[3] the son of actors who had met in New York City.[4] He has one sister.[5][6]

He attended Waterbury Arts Magnet School[3] and participated in a five-week intensive theater program at Wesleyan University in 2015.[5][7] In 2016, he moved to New York City[8] to attend Pace University.
