Justin Quincy Hubner (born 14 September 2003) is a professional Indonesian footballer who plays as a defender for Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Early life

Born in 's-Hertogenbosch,[1] he played in the youth sides of Willem II and Brabant United as well as for his hometown club FC Den Bosch.[2][3][4]

Club career

As a youth player, Hubner joined the youth academy of Dutch second tier side FC Den Bosch.[5][6] In February 2020 Hubner joined Wolverhampton Wanderers from FC Den Bosch, with his new club describing him as a left sided centre back who would go into their academy squad.[7] On 1 February 2023 the club announced Hubner had signed a new two-and-half-year contract keeping him at Wolves until June 2025.[8] He was named in a Wolves first team squad and was an unused substitute in the Premier League for the first time on 2 December 2023 away at Arsenal.[9]

International career

In October 2022 Hubner was called up to the Indonesia national football teams.[10] Indonesia manager Shin Tae-yong pointed to the selection of Rafael Struick, Ivar Jenner, and Hubner as foreign based players ahead of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup and Indonesia hosting the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup.[11][12][13]

Hubner joined the Indonesia squad for a training camp in Turkey in November 2022.[14] He was quoted as saying “I am currently in Turkey to join the Indonesian national team. I am very happy to have the opportunity to play with my friends. I hope to make Indonesia proud“.[15] On 17 November 2022, he played for the Indonesia U-20 against France U-20 in a friendly match in Spain.[16] He also played against Slovakia U-20 two days later.[17]

Hubner also represented the Netherlands U-19 football team,[18][19] and on 25 March 2023 he played for the Netherlands U-20 in a friendly against France U-20.[20]

Personal life

Hubner’s mother is Dutch whilst his father is Indonesian, with family in Jakarta and Makassar, and his grandmother being from Bandung.[21] On 3 November 2023, Erick Thohir, the PSSI president, told the press that Hubner would be naturalized as an Indonesian as soon as possible.[22]
