Purna Bikram Shah (Nepali: पूर्णविक्रम शाह) professionally known as Paul Shah, is a Nepali film actor and model known for his work in the Nepali film industry.[1] Starting off behind the scenes as an video editor, Shah got his film breakthrough from Nai Nabhannu La 4.[2][3] Since then, Shah has made an appearance in the romantic drama Ma Yesto Geet Gauchu,[4] action film Johnny Gentleman produced by Bikram Basnet, directed by Nitin Chand,[5] and family drama Shatru Gate.[6] He later worked in a social drama Bir Birkam 2, part of the Bir Bikram series[7] and Ma Yesto Geet Gauchhu 2.[8]

Allegations of rape of a minor

Shah was taken into custody by Tanahun police on 27 February 2022 after a 17-year old singer filed a police complaint accusing him of rape.[12] The Nawalpur District Attorney’s Office filed a statutory rape case against Shah and asked for a 14-year jail sentence.[13] However, the minor changed her statement on April 17 when, in a statement to the court, she said that she had not been raped and had made false claims after being provoked to do so.[14]

On 6 September 2022, the Nawalpur district court acquitted him of rape but found him guilty of the "sexual abuse of a minor" and sentenced him to 2.5 years in prison.[15] Shah challenged the verdict in an appeals court and on February 26, 2023, was acquitted of all charges by the Pokhara High Court citing a lack of evidence because the minor changed her statement on April 17, saying she was not raped, she was provoked into lodging a false complaint by others.[16] Shah was subsequently released.
